POSTER
This is the product we most need a break from. We are pleased with a great deal of it but are struggling to find a final layout that we are satisfied with. We are happy with the main image as we think it is simple but strong. We think it will pose a lot of questions for the audience that they will want to watch the film to have answered. Our main issues are:
1. Is all the text in the best places?
2. Have we got the right colour palette? What about the pale yellow?
3. Does coming soon need to be bigger?
4. Is there too mcuh empty space on the left?
MAGAZINE COVER
This is probably progressing more smoothly at the moment although it is further from being finished. However, we are much clearer about what needs to be done and how we might do it:
1. Sleepless teaser text - needs more 'selling' language
2. Smaller images - film titles need to stand out more
3. Teaser text on right needs to be cut down - too 'wordy'
4. Colour palette and font of text needs work
5. Pleased with balance of text and image
6. Pleased with new photo choice
7. Masthead - colour needs adjusting?
8. Background is ok but could it be more relevant to film?
TRAILER
Again, although this still needs work, we are aware of what we need to do:
1. Priority is sound mix
2. Also needs formal elements - ident, coming soon, end credits etc
3. Revoicing of two dialogue moments - caretaker and Rebekah
4. Ending still needs to be sharpened up
1. Poster is quite eye-catching - I think it would work well at a distance. Maybe you should use an effect on the title 'Sleepless'? Or maybe make the two ee's in sleep look like closed eyes?
ReplyDelete2. Magazine - general layout is good. I think a lighter background that gives more of a hint of the story would be good e.g. sheet and pillows. Maybe you could use some of your first poster ideas and put a dramatic picture in her head to make it more exciting?
3. Trailer - really good, can't believe you got someone to do that for you! I think it needs to pick up speed earlier though. Good music choices but I think the change beyween track 1 and 2 doesn't happen in the right place.

I really like your idea, and I like the way you've done the dream so we know it's a dream and not reality. I really like the last shot too but I'm not sure about the strangling shot before it, maybe pull it in a bit or add a zoom? I think the middle section needs some work as we don't really find out anything new. Maybe you need some titles and then you could let the audience know the middle bit seems to be about working out who the suspects are?
ReplyDeleteI like both your poster and magazine cover, the poster especially although from the makers of Another Day isn't big enough. Could there maybe be a reflection of the murderer on the left that is a shadow over the girl and then turns into a reflection in the water? I would have a different background for the magazine as it all merges in and then your text would stand out more. Text should be snappier.

Think the trailer is really good, maybe some shots could come out because the say the same thing. Like Robert said, are you having voiceover or text screens? It feels like maybe there should be, maybe you just haven't done them yet.
ReplyDeleteI lile the poster, very effective, but can you hint at what she is turning to look at? That would be good.
Magazine cover is a good shot but it's all very dark, you need to brighten it up a bit.

Love the poster! It makes me want to see the film. I agree that you could maybe do a bit more with the title font but the red colour works really well.
ReplyDeleteLike the picture on the mag cover, agree about background. Did you take any location shots? Maybe a photo of the drowning location but without the actors in it?
Love the trailer, agree you could take out a couple of shots. Also really love the music at the beginning, good choice! I think this will be great when you finish. Agree about using intertitles, I think you can add to the suspense that way, and i agree it would divide your trailer into 3 sections which would work with your music.
Love the effect on the dream, think you did well to get in the water and let someone do that!

Poster - I would have the tagline where the review is and the from the makers of where the tagline is and the review where from the makers of is. I would also use yellow for the coming soon and only have the title in red. Tagline is very clever.
ReplyDeleteMag - you need something at the bottom of the page for her to be looking at that's frightening otherwise the genre isn't clear. Text and background need work.
Trailer - like it! Agree strangling needs work.

you look like you've worked hard, the murder is really good and the poster too. Be even closer on her face in the magazine cover and maybe put a shot of the murder as a reflection across it like she's looking down in the water or put a bit of water at the bottom so it makes sense.

Your music is good it just needs re-ordering and mixing to match the action more. Maybe needs more speed at end but like the story. Don't get the switching pills though - what do the other pills do?

This is all good already, you will do well if you keep going. The magazine cover does need more impact, but I think you can do that quite easily. I like the poster and the trailer is good, just sort out the music and add voiceover / titles to make the sections clear.

Good story although i don't really get how they know nwhat she's dreaming? Good effects on dream though and effective drowning! Like the poster and mag cover, mag cover bit dark though and text should be more catchy.

Trailer - 1. I like it, it has a lot of drama and you do feel sorry for the girl. A little bit confusing at times but maybe that's just me!

Magazine Cover - 1. Good but picture isn't as dramatic as I thought it might be 2. Cover backgrouhnd could be a bed to connect a bit more with the title? If the bed was messy maybe?

I'm not sure the Screen is in the right colour and I think the cover needs to look more like a thriller, it's a bit plain. Change the background to something more to do with the film. The trailer is good, you need to work on sound especially music. Kayleigh

You might want to tighten up the end of the trailer but otherwise your doing really well. I agree with Maia that an effect on the Sleepless title would eb good. The reflection in the water idea is good too. Luke
